Yesterday we reflected on how important it is to God that we are faithful, full of faith. He wants to bless us as we trust Him. As our faith grows, we can Be Confident.

Even the disciples, who spent 24/7 with Jesus, had times of wimpy faith. When they found themselves caught in a squall in a little boat on a big lake, they panicked. I can “see” myself in their boat. As this new year started, I think it feels a lot like that boat in danger of “swamping.” The news this past week has confirmed the chaos of our world … violence, wars of words, natural disasters, record foreclosures, to name a few. Instead of greater peace, there’s greater conflict and fear. I hear Jesus asking us the same question He asked his soggy crew, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 8:25).

Jesus understands that as the time nears for Him to judge the earth and make all things new, those Who follow Him will feel confused, pressured, and and even deceived by those who call us to follow their version of the truth … it will feel like the boat is being swamped. He wants us to Be Confident. He reassures us,

“Watch out that you are not deceived. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them. When you hear of wars and uprisings, do not be frightened. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” (Luke 21:8-9)

The more we know what God’s Word says and Who our God is, the more confident we can be in His care and promises, no matter what the news says. Instead of anxiety, He gives peace. 


This weekend I know many of us will open a paper, listen to the news, or check a web page update. Let’s take some time to know God through His Word. Let’s not forsake gathering together to worship Him and to remember who we are in Him. As we know Him, I know we’ll enjoy the peace that comes from Being Confident. 

One idea to Be Confident this weekend:  Print out a news page from the web or take the front page of the paper and write “Where is your faith?” Don’t leave it at that … write a big “JESUS” underneath!
