Saturday night it looked like the moon had come down to rest on earth. The “Super Moon” was a once a year event when the moon was closest to the earth. For scientists, it was like the annual Academy Awards show. For lovers, it was an invitation.
Now before I go much farther, let me just say that Jeff is still jet lagging from his recent journey, so my Prince Charming nodded off just as the Super Moon beckoned husbands and wives to stop and remember that they’re in love, worldwide. How about you?
Even when God draws the “Super Moon” close to mankind in a display of how great He is, crafting a romantic backdrop for every married couple, we can miss it. Saturday night’s luminary was hard to miss, but it happens. How? Things like … jet lag, kids not wanting to go to bed, a “little” argument from the day, working the late shift, or work that didn’t get done. Ecclesiastes 3 points out that “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven” (Eccl. 3:1), even saying that there’s “a time for love” (v.8).
I have to wonder if God doesn’t offer us the perfect romantic settings, using moments that take our breath away, to inspire us to rekindle the romance that brought us together. Since marriage bears the reflection of God’s union in the way the moon reflects the light of the sun, anytime we nurture the love between us as God’s creation, He is glorified. To let our love reflection grow cold and dark is to rob Him of glory He is due. After all, who else can make a “Super Moon?”
We’re too easily distracted. In case you’re been breast feeding or writing a Sunday School lesson or wrangling kids in to bed or cleaning up the kitchen when you could’ve been outside snuggling with your lover in the light of the Super Moon … let me encourage you with some other “creation invitations” to rekindle your romance.
Top 10 Romantic Invitations:
- SUNSET!

There’s nothing scientific about my list. It’s totally subjective! Now you know what’s romantic to ME. What would you add? Are there moments/settings in creation when God creates a romantic backdrop for you, inviting you to remember and rekindle the love you share with your spouse? If you missed this weekend’s opportunity, don’t despair. The next Super Moon is June 23, 2013. You have a lot of time to plan ahead … but don’t miss all of the invitations between now and then.
After all, there is a time ….
