Feed Me Friday
When it comes to Christmas recipes, there are a few recipes I use that deserve the longer amount of time they take. But just a few …
The Sanders family Sand Tart cookies. The velvet cake roll. The potato yeast rolls. The Christmas morning casserole. The gingerbread cake.
But in the spirit of joy to the world, I find that it’s best not to drain my grocery budget or my energy, trying to replicate Food Network’s kitchen or experiment with all of my Pinterest “Recipes to Try.” Most of the time in December, peace on earth comes to our kitchen when we keep the recipes simple and resourceful.
Recipes all ages enjoy = simple
Before the bag of Thanksgiving turkey leftovers was painfully empty or the last yeast roll was buttered, the two oldest girl cousins of our extended family kicked off the holiday food creation season. Jo and one-year-younger Oliv turned an assortment of rod and twisted pretzels into chocolate covered, drizzled, and sprinkled wonders. We snacked on them as we braved the highway home, left a bag full for the Grands, and packed up bags to send to teachers for the inauguration of the home-stretch to Christmas weeks.
Recipes using what you have = resourceful
What do you have in your pantry? Can you add a little something to it and create something tasty and festive? I have to admit it … the white chocolate the girls used to drizzle was left from (I’m almost embarrassed to say…) LAST Christmas! Sorry, girls, but NO ONE KNEW! Not very “Food Network-y,” I know. It was delicious AND lovely, even if it was a little past its prime. 😉
“Better is a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it” (Prov. 15:16).
What are you doing in your kitchen this weekend? Keep it simple, share generously, and you’ll be more likely to stay jolly!

One word for this post and picture: LOVE! (those pretzels were delish and the cousins are pretty special too).
