Satan has already declared war against your family. Yesterday we considered a few of the tactics he might use to conquer you. Today we’re going to be encouraged by 3 truths about Satan. We’ll also discover the key God provides for defending against evil schemes against us.
If you follow God, Satan follows you. He would love nothing more than to turn your covenant into chaos and use your home as a trophy of conflict. Fortunately, we know some encouraging truths when it comes to spiritual warfare. We know some key facts about our Enemy.
Truths about Satan
- Satan is not omnipresent. God is everywhere, without boundaries.
- Satan is not omniscient. God knows all thoughts and events.
- Satan is not omnipotent. God is all powerful and sovereign.
We aren’t just wrestling with flesh and blood when it comes to making the marriage adventure work. We struggle against dark, supernatural powers of evil. Our opponent has been trying to entice lovers of God by using beautiful, seemingly harmless invitations since the first woman slept with the first man. They didn’t have thoughts of past partners or the lure of entertainment or the distraction of convenient idols. Spiritual warfare is easier now than ever for our adversary.
But greater is He who is in us and in our marriages than he who is in the world! There is no excuse for saying we can’t resist the Enemy’s temptations or overcome his attacks. God is greater than Satan in every way. He ultimately wins this battle for restoration! Woohoo! God has given us all we need as spiritual armor “to stand against the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11-12).
The answer to Spiritual Warfare
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. (Ephesians 6:13-18)
If you’re part of a Christian marriage, you have a target on your back. We can’t afford to begin our day undressed, unprotected, and unable to fight against an Enemy. He observes us, thinks about us, and carefully strategizes how to defeat us in spiritual warfare.
- How is the Enemy assaulting your home?
- What is he using today, or last night, or this year to drive wedges in your relationships?
- How could he use a “win” over your family to injure the church or His name?
- How will your faithfulness contribute to the heritage, good or bad, or the entire culture of your nation?
It’s time to remember we are in a battle. We have all we need to stand in victory!
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:10-11)
Is your marriage or family under attack? What is the Enemy using to try to overcome you?
