APPROACH him: take initiative with him

Friendship· Love· Marriage Encouragement· Relationships

The first Sadie Hawkins dance was held in November of 1938. The “real” Sadie Hawkins was a comic strip character who got to chase a bunch of bachelors and claim the one she caught. Today the rules are up for grabs as women and young women try to navigate texting, messaging, and friending the guys in their lives. Who should “go first?” While we could talk about rules of engagement, let’s just dig one gem out of this dilemma for our “28 days about him.”take initiative with your man

A godly gal can take initiative with her guy, without taking away his manhood.

Take initiative to show his value

One way to bless the guys in our lives is to take approach him first. No matter where you fall in the traditional roles of men and women and who should invite, plan, and pay, men appreciate a woman will take initiative. Of course, our guiding, unchanging principle is to “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves,” (Philippians 2:3).  By taking initiative toward our guy, we demonstrate his value. We show him how significant he is to us. THAT. ENCOURAGES. A. GUY.

A godly gal can take initiative with her guy, without taking away his manhood.

Taking initiative is not

  1. Telling him what to do
  2. Getting your way and calling it serving
  3. Ignoring his thoughts or desires
  4. Disregarding his leadership
  5. Taking control as a bully
  6. Robbin him of his manhood
  7. Putting down his authority
  8. Embarrassing him
  9. Making a statement about his ability
  10. Creating a sense of indebtedness

God gave us the best picture of taking initiative for the good of another. “We love because He first loved us,” (1 John 4:18-19).

Taking initiative is acting in love for the good of the other person: father, brother, son, husband, friend.  You might approach him first when your guy is tired, when you’re choosing a restaurant, when making recreational plans, or in romantic intimacy. It’s okay to “go first.” A godly gal can take initiative with her guy, without taking away his manhood. In fact, a godly gal can take initiative with her guy and pump UP his manhood! 28 Days Take initiative

Our guy will know he is loved when we approach him first.

What others are saying

"Julie’s writings and teachings have been spiritual markers in my life. The deep knowledge of the Word she possesses, and they way in which she delivers it through her writing are deeply impactful. I would say that my favorite piece about Julie’s work is the way she speaks truth in love. She never waters down scripture to fit someone’s desires. And she does this with so much grace and compassion."
