In honor of Mothers Day coming up this weekend, I want to tell you about a book for moms & give you a chance to WIN a copy! Jenny Sulpizio is a teammate of mine with The MOM Initiative and The MOB Society.
Confessions of a Wonder Woman Wannabe
More and more women are starting down the road to motherhood without a mom or mentor close by to help navigate the realities. Jenny Sulpizio is that sister in the trenches of motherhood that so many of us long for. I found myself shaking my head in recognition over so many of her “confessions.” She’s the girl who can relate, admitting, “You see, initially, I had expectations of a well-orchestrated daily schedule comprised of pure baby bliss: maybe routine trips to the gym, long showers, and a much-needed nap or two (or three) each day. Throw in the gourmet meals I was going to whip up for my husband each night, and the spotless house I was going to regularly maintain, and I was convinced of my destiny to redefine the “super” in Supermom . . . and channel my inner Wonder Woman in the process.”
In Confessions of a Wonder Woman Wannabe, Jenny gives reads the inside scoop about her early expectations and plans. You’ll feel like you’re having popcorn with the kind of friend who knows what you keep in your purse, because Jenny opens up her life and heart with a transparency that is truly a gift to moms today.
With humor that will do a girl a lot of good, Jenny shares practical wisdom and real life confessions every woman can relate to. She confesses, “The truth of the matter was this: after becoming a mom, my world consisted of a constant struggle to maintain balance in my life. It was evident that all of those ambitious ideas I once possessed were totally ridiculous on my part, and the reality of my situation was that I hardly ever worked out, cooked macaroni and cheese out of the box, a lot, and detested the mere thought of cleaning my own home.” Instead of just leaving moms feeling like defeated wannabes, Jenny gives mom help in tackling motherhood, running a household, and finding your identity.
Jenny once loathed mini-vans, neglected her crock pot, and despised housework like a lot of moms do. But, she tackled the challenge of mothering her crew and now shares her discoveries, hard-won lessons, and confessions. “I was forced into accepting the fact that my life on this roller coaster ride of motherhood was going to require every ounce of energy I could muster, a whole lot of help from up above, and maybe a serious
caffeine addiction, as well.”
In these Confessions of a Wonder Woman Wannabe, Jenny Sulpizio puts her arm around moms and has the kind of chat you’ve been waiting for. “I myself spend a sizeable amount of time praying for more patience, less frustration, and for God to mold me into the type of mom I so desperately want to become.” You can’t help but walk away feeling refreshed and hopeful on your valuable journey of mothering.

Confession: At least 3 days a week, I work in my pajamas from home and don’t get in the shower until about 30 minutes before I have to be in the carline at the Middle School. I aspire to be the one who gets up and is dressed with full makeup before everyone else is up, but most mornings I’m dropping kids off at school with barely brushed hair and morning breath!

A classic that my son won’t let me forget… He fell/jumped from a playground slide when he was 3 years old and injured his foot. Three days later, when his foot wouldn’t fit in his shoe because of the swelling, I took him to the doctor and found out that he had a fracture in his foot. Hours later, he had a cast on the foot and was on his way to healing. He is now 26 years old, but he still reminds me of my “neglectful” parenting.

I distinctly remember googling “I’m a terrible mother” in the middle of the night about 3 weeks into my new mom journey. I wish this book would have popped up in my results 🙂

When running errands, I a health nutty, often rely on Costco for lunch for my kiddos and me! Fruit, smoothies, cheese, bagels, rice treats….you name it. A treat for them and it conserves time for me!

Food! I have the home that my friends’ kids love to come visit because of the junk food. (Yes, I’m THAT mom.) It is a struggle for me to keep fresh fruit or veggies in the house. I try and fail, try and fail. Yes, we eat Pop-tarts and Eggo Waffles for breakfast many times. Don’t look in my cupboard – you will find sugary cereals, too!!! FAIL!
