When we engage a child with a book, we endorse the beliefs conveyed on the pages. What are your criteria for choosing reading material for your children? What do you expect? Before our little ones are able to discern truth from lies, grown ups bear a responsibility to pass the pages through a filter of faith.
I love finding books that build the faith of kids in our lives!
Look Inside the Time of Jesus has been released by Kregel Publishers, just in time to find its place under your Christmas tree. I was so glad to see that this full size board book for children ages 4-9 has already found its way to my local Christian bookstore. This children’s book meets my two primary criteria for a child’s library: presentation of biblical truth that is biblically accurate and engaging.
Features of Look Inside the Time of Jesus
- This sturdy, colorful book features pop out windows on its 16 pages. When my niece opened her copy, she exclaimed, “Cool! Pop outs!”
- Each page and its pop outs include content about the people, culture, and events of Bible times.
- Representations of daily life include details about careers, family life, animals, agriculture, and even games.
- Content traces the life of Jesus from Nazareth through Calvary.
- Children learn about synagogue life, schooling, and a carpenter’s shop common in Jesus time on earth.
- Around the Lake of Galilee, scenes include soldiers, fishermen, markets, and boats.
- Biblical literacy is cultivated by the scene at the Rich Man’s Feast, including a menu listing lentils and lamb, accurately portraying the habits of the day and similar cultures in modern times.
- The trial of Christ and images of the Garden Tomb all integrate real settings from Holy Land locations, along with historical details to build a child’s knowledge and feed their faith.
In reviewing Kregel’s new title for the young Bible learner, I loved the attention to detail and life-like portrayal of people and their lives. Presented in animate, full-color form, this engaging book will contribute to better understanding of Bible times and events, helping children to grow a confident and clear faith in our very real God.
Most children will reach for a colorful, interesting book, but I love opening a book with kids that also opens their hearts and minds to God’s true story and their part in it. I would gladly leave Look Inside the Time of Jesus out for the children who come to our home, and I would love to know it may find a place on your gift giving list this holiday season!
*I do not receive any compensation for reviewing books for Kregel, but I’m glad to pass on trusted titles that will help you and your loved ones grow in God’s truth!
