Big things this Tuesday

Uncategorized

Join me at Do Not Depart Today where I’m posting about “His Word when we’re burned out.”

For a while now I’ve been waffling about Tasty Tuesdays. Pun TOTALLY intended. 😉 I really like including a weekly or close-to-weekly recipe for these reasons:

Why I have a food day

  1. It motivates me to cook!
  2. It lets you know me more intimately
  3. Food communicates love
  4. Recipes describe cultures
  5. I think good food in a home is invaluable and God is pleased when we become skilled, caring, and even sacrificial in order to serve healthy, delicious, beautiful food to anyone at our table.

Encouraging my readers to be cooks also encourages them to love the people in their lives practically, to care for and serve others, to be thankful for God’s good things, to ENJOY the flavors of life, and to feed our love of being keepers of the home! That makes me want to get out my apron. I’d say that’s a lot of help in practicing peace in the way we live, so I want to keep having recipes …

… but not on Tuesdays. Nope.

The food is moving to Fridays!  I’m still chewing on ideas for what to call it, and I’m very open to ideas!  “Tasty Fridays” doesn’t sound right. If you have a great idea, leave it on the Come Have a Peace Facebook page, leave it in a comment, or email me!  You might just win a prize. 🙂 So look for something this Friday that you might just be inspired to make over the weekend.

My Blog Plan for the Week

As for the rest of the week, we’ll still talk about the miracle of two becoming one on Marriage Mondays, and during the middle of the week, we’ll talk about different issues in a woman’s life that need the passes-understanding peace of God. I hope you’ll join me, and I’d love it if you’d help expand our reach by “Liking” the Facebook page, following on Twitter, or pinning a thing or two.

  • The rest of this week and next, we’re talking about School Supplies, which mostly applies to moms, but not all.
  • Wednesday we’ll talk about How to Pray.
  • Thursday we’ll talk about Balancing Your Time.  I’ll give you a snap shot from a workshop panel I’m facilitating Wednesday night called “Getting it Together Before It All Falls Apart.” Five women will share nuggets of wisdom about balancing life’s demands, including what they’ve tried with success, and where they’ve failed.School Supplies

In honor of School Supplies, I have a giveaway! Leave a comment on the blog page OR on the Facebook page this week or next and be entered to win this awesome Thirty-One gift bag for any woman, not just moms. Tomorrow I’ll “show” you what’s inside and share about the sweet friend who donated it.

For today, I’d love to hear what area of your life is the biggest source of interference/challenge in bringing balance to your days.

Looking forward to your new format and so glad that you are keeping the recipes coming : )

I’m personally glad to hear/read that you are continuing the recipe segment. I just have this feeling I have more treasures to glean from you!

My suggestions for a name would be “FunTASTEic Friday” or “Non-fry Friday” (which wouldn’t work if you have recipes for fried foods) or maybe “Flavorful Friday” – that’s all I have at the moment. Have fun with this!

I LOVE it that I’m not the only out there who loves alliteration! 😉 I’m getting great suggestions!

My biggest challenge is to be able to change my priorities. As support staff to my husband at his business, I must be focused on that job. Once school is out, I am supposed to be focused on my child, and my home and my mother/homemker/wife responsibilities, which take away from each other sometimes, too. How do I manage an office, a home and a family, with joy, with all the time constraints? Sometimes I am sure that God has put too much on my little plate! 🙂

I’ll admit, Karen, a little while ago when the Lord gave me something new, I looked up (habit 😉 ) and said outloud, “Seriously, Lord?” 🙂 He is so patient with me. You describe the challenges so very well. “Good things” in our lives really CAN actually contend with each other for our time! I’m anxious to hear ideas from ladies this Wednesday night about how to make decisions and how to balance it all. I’ll let you know what they share!

Sounds like some great stuff coming up! My challenges – I feel like I’m always responding to the urgent, plus I get distracted easily & lose focus which often causes my days to feel like survival rather than balanced & fruitful. Oh, I’m curious about the Thirty-One bag as I keep hearing about it. Have a great day!

Thirty-One bag PICTURE tomorrow! It’s beautiful. I want it. 🙂 Yes, the urgent … one of the biggest obstacles to focus. I’ll see if anyone shares a “secret” to this on Wednesday night.

It looks like LeAnn beat me to it…Flavorful Friday came to my mind too.
Filling Friday, Feasting Friday, Family Table Friday…Just a few more thoughts.
As i started reading your page today my heart sunk for a brief moment as I thought Tasty
Tuesday was gone forever! Glad to know it is only moving:) I enjoy the recipes, but most
of all I enjoy hearing what God needs me to through your blog and His word. Thanks for
all that you do! You are such a blessing:)

Oh, your words are like gravy on a biscuit. 🙂 Thank you Kendra. I’ll keep cooking and sharing, but maybe Monday nights can be pizza night now. 😉 But the weekends will be great in my kitchen! I’m so glad you are encouraged. That makes my heart so happy!

What others are saying

"Julie’s writings and teachings have been spiritual markers in my life. The deep knowledge of the Word she possesses, and they way in which she delivers it through her writing are deeply impactful. I would say that my favorite piece about Julie’s work is the way she speaks truth in love. She never waters down scripture to fit someone’s desires. And she does this with so much grace and compassion."
