It was so beautiful yesterday. I had thoughts of a Marriage Monday idea I wanted to write … but hadn’t written yet. Butter colored sunlight shone through cool afternoon air as the crickets sang.
Jeff said, “Do you want to go for a walk with me?” I hesitated. In my mind, I was waffling. I’m embarrassed to say it, even to admit it, but I was. If I stayed home, I could have an uninterrupted hour to link words together with scripture and life and call it “Marriage Monday.” But if I went, I could drink in the kind of afternoon only God can make, while I walked and talked with my husband. What to do?
My hesitation gave me away. “If I go,” I said, “I won’t be able to write Marriage Monday.”
Then wisdom. The kind that comes from our randomly uninhibited teenage son at times like this, saying, “You could stay here and write about marriage, or you could go with Dad and actually have a good marriage.” (Emphasis totally his)
Not such a hard decision after all. It was a great walk. Our marriage enjoyed the buttery sun and the cool air and the crickets and the walking and the talking. I hope you won’t mind. I didn’t think you would. You’re sweet like that.
Praying you go for a walk with your man some time this week, too.
Happy Marriage Monday!

Good for you, Julie!! You made the right choice, and still had an inspiring post come out of it. : )

The best way I love to connect with my husband is by walking! We are the parents of a 6 year old and 2 year old so our marriage right now can’t take too many walks by ourselves. We often walk as a family. However, in those times that we can walk like on date night, we love to connect by doing something we both love to do!!
Good job on choosing the better of the two choices! 🙂

Another case of “the good vs. the best” – glad the best won out! 🙂
