We’ve rounded the halfway point of this 28 Days About Him, learning about the men in our lives. Last Sunday we talked about how to RELEASE him to God’s work in his life. There are also times to confront him and times to challenge him, but one of the greatest influences we can have in the lives of our men is to pray. Praying for the man in our life enlists the power of God in his.
Son, friend, brother, boyfriend, father, or husband … men need prayer if they’re to be great men. There have been many lists shared about how to pray for husbands. A wife can pray for her man from head to toe, for 31 days, or with these 25 verses. I love this recent post about how to pray for a husband’s mind. But many men and women today will not marry, leaving an unprayed for army and an untapped resource, if we just talk about praying for husbands. Men today need our prayers. Praying for the man in our life enlists the power of God in his.
Listen to a man who knew the power of prayer and shared it in Ephesians 3:14-19. His prayer covered male and female, but we can apply the heart of this prayer 5o men in particular. After all, it’s not easy to be a man of God in today’s world.
“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:14-19)

- Pray that he will allow God’s Spirit to be his strength
- Pray that he will have confident belief in Jesus Christ, for salvation & in daily things
- Pray that he will be firmly established/stable in benevolent thinking & brotherly love
- Pray that he will understand the scope and potential of Christ’s love
- Pray that he will resist dependence on his knowledge or the pride that comes with it
- Pray that he will experience the fullness of life as a boy/man of God
So who are the boys and the men in your life? You do realize we aren’t just talking about husbands here, right? How about your son? Your students? Your brother? Your pastor? Your brother-in-law? Your dad? Your husband? That guy in your small group? Instead of just wondering why men today collectively come up short of being the mighty men of God we know they’re called to be … let’s be the devoted women of prayer God calls us to be!
