In April we scratched the surface of heaven, barely starting to talk about who is there. There will be angels, overcomers, martyrs, worshipers, and God Himself, but there won’t be divas. There are no divas in heaven.
What is a diva?
One urban dictionary describes a diva as a, “woman that must have her way exactly, or no way at all. often rude and belittles people, believes that everyone is beneath her and thinks that she is so much more loved than what she really is. Selfish, spoiled, and overly dramatic.” This woman is all about getting what she wants and being the center of attention, which may land her on the red carpet, but not necessarily in heaven. God wants her with Him in heaven, but she has to die to herself to get there.
When divas die
Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” (Matthew 16:24-26) A woman who is genuine follower of God lets her inner diva die away and invites the Holy Spirit to take control.
What divas can’t buy
Only Jesus qualifies us for heaven. We let go of getting our way and choose to love His way. It’s less “girlfriend” and more Him. Only those who follow Jesus will join Him in heaven. There is a righteous requirement for, a requirement we can’t buy with Visa, whine to receive, earn with loyalty points, or win in a lottery.
How divas change
Becoming like Jesus doesn’t happen overnight, not even once we receive His forgiveness and run hard after Him. It’s more challenging than Crossfit, harder than Nutrisystem, & more intense than having a life coach. It’s letting go of having our way, belittling others, acting spoiled, and stirring up drama. Only Jesus can change a diva.
Change is a gradual growth process after we decide to let Jesus lead our lives. This change is evidence that we are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). But there will be a day when our life on earth is over, no matter how much diva we have left in us. It could come naturally in our sleep after many years, after a battle with disease, or during a night of violent storms. For girls who left their diva behind and embraced Jesus, “I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality,” (1 Corinthians 15:51-53). Faster than blinking her mascara coated lash, that one-time-diva will be eternally changed, glorified beyond her dreams.
We don’t know how many days we have on this earth, but today is a good day to turn your heart toward heaven. Start longing for the eternal and thirsting for the glorious. Anticipate God’s presence. If there’s any diva leftover at the end of our life, it will be erased when God receives us into heaven. It’s a great day to let go of your inner diva!
Questions to consider:
- Would the people in your life say you’re a diva?
- Do you ever brag about or laugh about being a diva?
- Are you raising/influencing girls to think it’s cute to be a diva?
- If you were to meet God tonight and He was to look at you with His tender eyes full of Father-love, would He see a diva, or would He see a girl who gave her life to Jesus Christ?
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a recap of the Heaven is Unreal series, and some news about where I’m off to! (Hint: It involves jet lag, another language, and lots of coffee.)
