I’ve given it my best attempt, but I’m just not good at it. Being the Holy Spirit.
When I got married, my mom told me to remember I’m not the Holy Spirit. Over the last 24 years, I’ve learned what she meant. How foolish to be a flawed person trying to change another flawed person, and yet, I have that tendency. Can you relate?
Why we have to release him
We will never enjoy or respect the men of any age or relationship in our lives, unless we release them. Release him: trust God. The Holy Spirit is the one who is able to work in their lives, assigned the role of working in their lives, and most passionate about working in their lives. Despite my good intentions, I’m not able to change anyone, it’s not my job, and I don’t want it more than God. I have my own “stuff” to grow in. Can you relate?
How we can release him: trust God
A woman can RELEASE the guy in her life (son, dad, brother, husband, friend), because God is already working in him. Be relieved to know that the task of making your man into a godly man isn’t your task. My task is to be a godly woman. Are you trying to be the Holy Spirit in your man’s life? Open your grip of trying to control and change him. Be free of the urge to nag or maneuver him. Let God have him. Release him: trust God to be at work.
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:12-13)
- Did your guy go to church this weekend?
- Did he get in bed early so he could be fresh for worship?
- Did he take a Bible with him to a weekend service?
- Did he sing in the worship time?
- Did he give or give cheerfully into the offering box?
- Did he fall asleep during the teaching time?
Fret not, dear mom or sister or wife or girlfriend or friend. Ask God to help you be the woman YOU need to be, and pray fervently for the guy you care about, asking GOD to do a great work in Him. Release him: trust God. RELEASE him.
